Heads Up for student Gavilan login changes and Spring 2011 registration

Pre-priority registration for Spring 2011 will begin in a few days on November 18. (Don't ask me what pre-priority means since I always thought priority meant first!) The schedule of classes is available online right now but will not be available in print until 11/24/10 and after.

AND

Students will be given access to MyGav as of the end of the week. When they want to log into Banner they will go through MyGav. For those of you that haven't used MyGav much you might want to get familiar with it to help students with logging in and such. Of course the login user and password will be the same as their familiar Banner information.

Banned Books Week 2010

Banned Books Week starts tomorrow (9/25/10-102/10). We have added the ALA Banned Book Resouce Guide to the collection. It will be at the Reference Desk during this next week. If the past is any guide, at least one teacher will have students coming in to get a 'banned book' to read. There is a chapter called Challenged or Banned Books with a title, author and geographical index.

Changes to Our Microsoft Word setup on the Student Computers

Good Morning!

As of this morning we reset the student sit down computers to simplify the default formatting in Word 2007. These changes are in keeping with the requirements of MLA and APA formatting.

The default formatting is now:

• Times New Roman (default font)
• 12 (default size)
• Double (default spacing)
• 0 -- we eliminated the extra space being added after every line

Library Card Expiration Dates

Just a reminder to everyone; the expiration date for a new or renewed card is one year from the date issued and the purge date is two years from the date issued.

• Example: Card issued 5/18/10 would expire 5/18/2011 and the purge date would be 5/18/2012

Your Account is in Use Message on Cybraryn

Hello and Long Time, No Post

I just spoke with a student that has been getting the Cybraryn message that her account is in use for a couple of weeks and she mentioned that she had talked with someone about it at one time and they couldn't fix it.

As a reminder here is the fix:

• Click OK from the message
• Click on Override
• Enter the password (the password it is located in the Reference Information binder, behind the first tab, at the Reference Desk)
